Welcome to Marion!
Marion is the county seat of Marion County and was founded in 1824. It was named after General Francis Marion, an officer in the Revolutionary War from South Carolina. Located 50 miles north of Columbus, the city of Marion offers many historic places of interest and community events. The Palace Theater has been in continuous operation since it opened in 1928 and is one of only 16 remaining atmospheric theaters designed by John Eberson still in operation in the US. The old Marion post office was built in 1910 and is now home to the Heritage Hall Museum. The Huber Machinery Museum is a popular historical spot as well, featuring tools and machines from a bygone era. Marion hosts the Marion County Popcorn Festival each year in September and offers the Wyandot Popcorn Museum, being the largest producer of popcorn in the nation. A popular tourist attraction is the Harding Home where Warren G Harding, the 29th president of the United States, lived. A wonderful place to live and play, come explore historic Marion!
